The UNIX career track includes gaining knowledge in both HP-UX, IBM AIX and Sun Solaris Operating Systems.

Introduction to UNIX

Designed for students with no prior UNIX knowledge, this course provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the full range of Unix user services and utilities. Topics include:


1. Using Common Desktop Environment (CDE) applications

2. Understanding Unix File System Structure

3. Employing Solaris pipes and filters

4. Using vi Editor

5. Using files, directories and devices

6. Unix Shell Features and Commands

7. Sending & receiving electronic mail

8. Common Unix Utilities

9. Network Related Utilities

10. X Windows


Course Pre-Requisite: None (Students are assumed to have basic computer knowledge)

System Administration

This course is the first of a two-part series for students who want to learn how to administer a Solaris environment. Topics include:


1. Setting up and managing disk and file systems

2. Performing installations and upgrades on Workstation

3. Unix Workstation Administration tasks

4. Software Package Administration

5. Maintaining Patches

6. Administering Peripherals

7. Automating Tasks

8. Setting up and supporting user services
